A special Evensong to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe.
This very special service will include readings, music and bespoke prayers, celebrating the resilience and fortitude of the people of London—both in 1945 and today. It will also feature an act of commemoration for the Fallen and a time of reflection on present-day conflicts. As part of the service there will be specially selected choral works.
Following the service there will a short lamp lighting ceremony and blessing on the West Steps and the Cathedral bells will be part of the national bell ringing at 18.30.
In front of the West Steps, visitors can see a replica Spitfire and find out more about its role in the Second World War.
The VE Day service is part of our commemorations marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War, which include a series of special services, events, talks, exhibitions, and films.
