Four new Chapter members for St Paul's
In a ceremony on October 11th, presided by the Bishop of London, Dame Sarah Mullally, Peter Aiers, Alison Gowman, Morag Ellis KC and Mervyn McCullagh were installed as Non-Executive Members and Lay Canons. Morag Ellis was additionally installed as a Lay Minister.
As a Non-Executive Member of Chapter, the new appointees are appointed to the position for three years. They can serve a maximum of three, three-year tenures.
The Chapter of St Paul's provides strategic direction and leadership for the Cathedral, and comprises members who are lay and ordained, executive and non-executive.
Peter Aiers OBE
Peter is Chief Executive of The Charthouse, and previously held a number of roles, including CEO, at the Churches Conservation Trust. Peter developed his career in heritage conservation with roles at English Heritage and Diocese of London, before taking a series of promotions through the Churches Conservation Trust. He holds a number of trusteeships, including at the Heritage Alliance and the Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital Trust.
Morag Ellis KC
Morag is Dean of the Arches, Church Commissioner and an ex officio member of General Synod with a distinguished career in ecclesiastical, planning, and environmental law. She was called to the Bar in 1984, took Silk in 2006, and is currently undertaking a Master of Laws in Canon Law.
Mervyn McCullagh
Mervyn is currently Director of Strategy and Global Change at Christian Aid, with previous strategy, general leadership and communications roles in the Presbyterian Church of Ireland, Irish Council of Churches and the Methodist Church of Britain and Ireland, with overseas experience in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. He was a member of the Irish Churches Peace Project Steering Group, which facilitated a range of local peace initiatives.
Alison Gowman
Alison is a Consultant at DLA Piper. Throughout her legal career she has specialised in commercial real estate, and been a champion for younger women in the sector, having founded and chaired the first Women's Network at DLA Piper.
She is also an Alderman of the City of London, and has played an active role in the Corporation since 1991 when she was first elected as a Common Councillor. She has extensive board experience including for visitor attractions, and the City Bridge Foundation (which she chaired 2016-2019). She is a champion for Net Zero and EDI.
