George Inscoe appointed as new Sub Organist of St Paul's Cathedral
In his new role, George will join the eminent cohort of organists who enrich daily services, special services and events at the Cathedral.
George joins the Cathedral from Croydon Minster, where he is Sub Organist. Here, he has made a significant contribution to the ongoing development of music, worship and ministry of the church since he began in August 2022. George has also held positions at Norwich Cathedral and maintained a busy schedule as a recitalist. Recent recital engagements include Westminster Abbey and Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral and St Thomas’ Church Fifth Avenue in New York City.
On his new appointment, George said:
“I am thrilled to be joining the music team at St Paul’s Cathedral. I am very excited to be working with Andrew Carwood, James Orford and all the fantastic musicians in this busy and thriving department. St Paul’s is an awe-inspiring building with a world class Choir and organ, and it is a true privilege to be able to make music in this historic place.”
George began his musical career as a Canterbury Cathedral chorister where he was chosen as a UK Young Voices Tour soloist in December 2005, and Head Chorister in his final year. George then went on to become a music scholar at St Edmund’s School, Canterbury before gaining a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he won numerous academic and performance prizes. He studied with Susan Landale (in London and Paris) and Bine Bryndorf (in Copenhagen) as well as improvisation with Gerard Brooks and Neil Wright.
Additionally, George is the Co-founder and Director of the Norwich Consort of Voices, a professional choir based in Norfolk and also runs a small recording business based in London.
